For example, the world of industrial computers is changing with the appearance
of Intel's® Atom processor, a low power, energy efficient processor that
made its first showing in the commercial market. In the next few months keep
your eye out for Global's latest custom system using this new technology. With
a life span of AT LEAST 7 years, you won't find another Industrial Net-top out
there for the same low cost and long life.
CPU discontinuance and availability
As many of you may already be aware, the CPU market is constantly
changing. As
new processors, chipsets and technologies emerge, some of the older processors,
chipsets and technologies are discontinued. Through market research,
Intel®, AMD® and VIA® are well aware of what their hottest selling
CPU's are. Using this information, some of the lesser used products are
discontinued and replaced with similar products. Intel® will also move
some of their more popular and highest selling products to the embedded division,
extending the life of that product to have a 7+ year manufacturing availability. Although
Intel® does give ample notice of the availability of their discontinued
products, these products become harder to find and are sometimes less cost effective
