Global American offers a variety of slot single board computers supporting PC/104, ISA, PCI, SSD, SVGA, SCSI and available with 386, 486, Pentium, Celeron, Pentium III, and Pentium 4 processors. We now offer a new product called Disk On Module, which are fully IDE-Compatible Flash Disks that can be integrated onto any Single Board Computer. They are designed to replace conventional low capacity disk drives or M-Systems SSD Disk-On-Chip Flash.
An SBC or SIngle Board Computer is a complete computer built onto a single circuit board. The whole design topology is centered around a single or dual processor with RAM, I/O and any other feature that the computer needs to run. Going back into the history books the first true single board computer was the MYCRO-1, which was built around an Intel 8080 CPU. SBCs played a major role in the early history of home computers citing the Acorn Electron and the BBC MIcro. Other early single board computers were shipped without enclosures, which had to be added by the owner
With the influx of PC's there was a drastic shift away from the SBC, computers were now being constructed from a motherboard and having functions such as serial ports, disk drives and graphics being supplied on duaghterboards. The SBC was not a favorite for these emerging technologies.. But not all was lost for the SBC, there was still a need in the Industrial field for this form factor and newer technologies like more current Intel Chips have been put on SBCs and there is still a strong calling for this piece of hardware.
At Global American, we looking to the future and realize the importance of developing alternative energy sources. We will support this initiative by supplying a diverse offering of computer components for the developers of alternate energy resources. Lead-free Single Board Computers (SBCs) and Mini-ITX Motherboards with new, low power microprocessors allow green-minded engineers and developers to create cleaner, energy-efficient systems that harness nature’s power. Solar panels and systems need hardware that will regulate its use for maximum efficiency. The same is true for hydro-electric and windmill equipment. We at Global American are here to answer your questions and address your needs. We look forward to working with you to create a cleaner, healthier future for our children through technology.
NASA equips the Mars Lander with an SBC with 74MB of Memory

With its 7.7-foot-long, aluminum and titanium robotic arm, the Phoenix Mars Lander will dig down into the Red Planet’s frozen soil. A camera and conductivity probe on the arm will gather imagery and soil and ice samples, which will be analyzed with instruments onboard the lander’s deck. A team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., engineered and tested the Phoenix robotic arm, which was built by engineers at Alliance Spacesystems Inc.
The spacecraft’s command and data handling subsystem takes advantage of 74 megabytes of random access memory (RAM), flash memory, and a RAD6000 microprocessor embedded on an SBC modified to withstand radiation, temperature fluctuations, and other environmental challenges. In fact, the spacecraft’s thermal control subsystem combines electrical heaters, thermostats, and temperature sensors to prevent component damage during periods of high heat en route to Mars, severe cold at the Martian Arctic Circle, and daily temperature variations. A UHF antenna on the lander deck provides communications and data transmissions.
